INDIANAPOLIS -- It's fall break time in central Indiana, which means many families may be heading south this week to neighboring Kentucky, the mountains in Tennessee, or even Florida for a beach getaway. But we do have some road construction planned for next weekend that may alter your plans for getting back home here to the Hoosier state.
Plan ahead, because northbound lanes of I-65 in Jefferson County will close for the weekend according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for safety improvements.
A high-friction surface will be installed on I-65 between Chestnut Street and Muhammad Ali Blvd. That means the area known locally as the "hospital curve" will need to be avoided from Friday night until Monday morning.
The work will provide a smoother driving surface and help with waterproofing.
In order to get this project done in a timely manner, construction contractors will close I-65 north between I-64 and I-264 which is between mile markers 130.6 and 136.4 in Louisville.
So if you are driving back to Indy along NB I-65, you can take I-264 west and make your way around town to eventually connect with I-64 and take that east and then hop back on I-65 north.
Watch for slow downs and crews working and plan ahead if your travels take you through this area over your weekend!
