BROWN COUNTY — Brown County State Park will be open for limited hours on Monday and Tuesday but will remain closed overnight until further notice.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources issued a release Monday morning saying they have extended the closures at the campgrounds, cabins and Abe Martin Lodge until "at least Tuesday" after the park suffered damage and issues following excessive rains last week.

The park will reopen for some day use activities and services on Monday and Tuesday (June 24-25), such as sight-seeing, fishing and picnicking. DNR says the Abe Martin Lodge, pools, modern restrooms and all drinking fountains will remain closed until they can confirm the water at the park is safe for use.

Vault toilets will remain available to guests at the park and the gates will be staffed, but admission will be free during Monday and Tuesday.

Some hiking trails will open Monday but mountain bike and horse trails will remain closed while crews determine the amount of damage that still exists.

Further closures beyond Tuesday will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis as DNR watches lake conditions, rainfall and examines water test results.
