INDIANAPOLIS -- More than 500 crashes and several abandoned vehicles later, Indianapolis and the surrounding area is still recovering from a brutal freezing rain episode that swept the city Friday night.
Reports of multiple accidents began around 10 p.m. and included vehicles that slid off the road, collisions and others involving semi-trucks.
Here’s the breakdown of the incidents that occurred from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday according to Indiana State Police:
Property damage crashes: 345
Personal injury crashes: 52
Fatal crashes: 2
Slide offs: 139
Assisted motorists: 100
Indiana State Police vehicles struck: 9
In Johnson County, 16 slide offs, 9 incidents of property damage and one personal injury were reported.

Freezing rain is expected again for Saturday night into Sunday morning. The Winter Weather Advisory for most of Central Indiana was extended until noon Sunday.

Indiana State Police is urging the public to not travel unless, "unless there is a dire need involving some type of legitimate emergency."
