One of the best parts of fall is the beautiful colors it brings. 

And we're well into the season now, but the leaves are still green on the trees.

Typically, the leaves start to change colors from Oct. 12 - Oct. 28 south of Indianapolis, and from now until Oct. 21 to the north of the city.

Three factors influence leaf color: the calendar, length of night, and the weather.

As the days grow shorter, and nights grow longer and cooler, biochemical changes begin to change leaf color.

The problem this year has been the temperature.  We've been enjoying above-normal temperatures since the beginning of September, five to 10 degrees above normal, and that's tricked the trees into thinking its still summer.
