LAWRENCE — The cause of a fire which left heavy damage to a Lawrence senior living apartment complex may never be known, according to Lawrence Fire Chief Dino Batalis.
Batalis said the magnitude of the three-alarm fire has made it impossible for investigators to find a cause, although he says arson has been ruled out.
30 units at the Benjamin Court Apartments off Lee Road in the Fort Harrison area were destroyed and about 60 more were damaged in the Dec. 17 fire.
In all, the complex has 254 apartments designed for senior living.
There were no injuries in the blaze which took more than one hour for Lawrence and Indianapolis firefighters to bring under control.
Many residents were evacuated to a nearby YMCA.
