We’re getting closer to spring, but that doesn’t always mean warmer temperatures. The first weekend of March roars in more like a snow leopard than a lion. Accumulating snow is possible Sunday. That also means temperatures take another tumble on gusty winds.
Our temperature outlook calls for below average temperatures across Central Indiana. That’s certainly going to be felt early in the month. Several nights of single digit lows are expected during the first full week of March. Highs in the 20s, during the same time, come in well below what we expect for this time of year. The frigid conditions are expected to linger into at least the middle of the month. We may see a little moderation the second half of March, but indications are still leaning cold there too.
The good news about cold air is the potential to limit our early spring severe weather threat. Right now, we’re given “equal chances” of above, below or average precipitation. We average just over three and a half inches of precipitation and about two and a half inches of snow. We may exceed our average snowfall number with the first weekend of the month. We’ll have more details on that in other stories. Otherwise, indications are much of the month may give us a break from what’s been an active weather pattern.
