May weather outlook features a familiar pattern

Welcome to the month of May! As we know, it's a busy one with all of the activity at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway leading up to the Indy 500. We need all the dry time we can get, but we may not be able to pump the brakes on our active weather pattern.

April brought us more than enough rainfall. Indianapolis reported rain on 17 of 30 days, which added up to just shy of 5".

Above average rainfall is in the May outlook just out from the Climate Prediction Center. Between now and the middle of May, our break in wet weather appears to last no more than a day or two at a time. Coming off of a soggy April means flooding issues could develop quickly in a month that averages just over 5" of rainfall.

Despite the rainy days, the outlook also calls for temperatures to run above average. With all of the wet weather expected, things could get a bit steamy as our average high climbs into the middle and upper 70s by the end of May.
