INDIANAPOLIS -- Six confirmed tornadoes touched down in central Indiana Sunday, causing widespread damage in multiple areas and flooding.
Widespread power outages left thousands without power throughout the state. At the peak of the storms more than 35,000 Hoosiers were without power, according to Indiana Michigan Power and Duke Energy.
Jay County was one of the hardest hit with the sheriff's office reporting that a possible tornado destroyed multiple homes and damaged several others. Because of the widespread outages and damage, Jay County Schools were closed on Monday and multiple businesses canceled their 3rd shift Sunday night.

The National Weather Service says an EF-2 tornado started just northeast of Eaton in Delaware County and continued northeast for 39 miles into Mercer County, Ohio. Winds for an EF-2 can range between 111 and 135 mph.
Another confirmed tornado touched down in Muncie. An EF-1 tornado can have winds anywhere between 86 to 110 mph.

In Muncie, storms took part of the roof off of the historic fieldhouse and caused severe flooding damage inside the building. Multiple homes also saw roof damage and the property at Muncie Central High School had several outdoor fixtures damaged.

The city of Muncie asked residents to clear the streets so emergency personnel could respond to widespread damage throughout the city.

Damage reports also came in from Lawrence Township with trees down and roofs that were blown off of multiple homes.
In Johnson County, severe flooding was blamed for multiple water rescues Sunday evening, mostly near the Marion County line. Viewers reported flood waters inches deep inside their homes.
Madison County Emergency Management says multiple areas in the county saw downed trees but most of the damage was in the area of 1550N between 300W and 500W with utility lines and farm structures damaged from the storms. Several roads also experienced flooding because of the heavy rains.
In southern Indiana, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado in Springville and three tornadoes near Salem, Indiana. Two of the tornadoes in Salem were EF-1's and one was an EF-0 with winds between 65 and 85 mph.
