March 17-23 is Severe Weather Preparedness Week and RTV6 is Working For You to make sure you and your families are prepared when there’s severe weather. Each day this week, RTV6 will be debunking weather myths and offering tips to keep you safe.

INDIANAPOLIS — Severe weather can happen any month of the year in Central Indiana. We’ve even had tornadoes in January. We are coming up on our peak severe weather season, which stretches from March to July.

That’s why RTV6 is Working For You with ways to stay safe when threatening weather happens. It's part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana.

Each day this week, we’ll debunk weather myths and share useful tips and tools to make sure you and your family are ready before lightning strikes or a tornado warning is issued.

The highlight of the week will be a tornado drill at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday. This will be the time to put your safety plan into practice.

While there is no formal evening drill this year, you can still host a practice run with your family to ensure they know what to do, if a tornado warning is issued while they’re at home.
