We have made our way into December. It's typically when we start getting ready for those long stretches of cold weather. The thing is we should be well prepared for that at this point.
November took us into the cold stuff pretty quick. High temperatures fell below average on the 8th day of the month, and didn't climb above average until the 23rd. Several days in the stretch didn't even make it out of the 30s!
There are some, in fact several, signs of warmer days in the December outlook.
Many of the global weather patterns we look at are on their way to trends which favor warmer than average temperatures across Indiana. We have to be patient though. While the first weekend of the month opened with mild numbers, a more sustainable warm-up holds off until just before the middle of the month. It's unlikely you'll be reaching for the shorts though. Keep in mind our average high drops into the mid 30s by the end of the month.
When it comes to precipitation, above average conditions are in the outlook for western Indiana. Much of that has to do with the system that brought about an inch of rain to the area on December 1st. We may also add to those totals just before the middle of the month. More widespread wet weather is anticipated then ahead of our warm-up.
Time will tell if that round will be snow. We average more than six inches this month!
