INDIANAPOLIS—Youth gun violence was the focus at Friday's Indy Tenpoint Coalition annual prayer breakfast. Six awards were presented to men who have worked to curb the violence in Indianapolis and around the state.
Here are the awards and their recipients:
- Reverend Eugene Rivers Youth Service Award: Kareem Hines of Newboys
- Neighborhood Crime Prevention Awards: Leroy Smith and Ernest Turner
- Community Service Award: Dr. Wallace McLaughlin of Fathers and Families, and Rick Snyder of Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police
- Reverend Charles Ellis Jr. Humanitarian Award: Iric Headley of Ft. Wayne United.
"The annual breakfast is a special time we take to thank our diligent volunteers and recognize some of the outstanding work that is being done in our communities to curb youth violence," said Reverend Charles Harrison, Indy Tenpoint Board President. "While we always want to help decrease violence in the community by working collaboratively with our partners and law enforcement, today's breakfast also gives us an opportunity to showcase how our work impacts families that are victims of violent crimes to cope with their grief."
