CARMEL — James Brainard fought off a primary challenger Tuesday to win the Republican mayoral nomination.

Brainard, who defeated Hamilton County councilor Fred Glynn with 55.82% of the vote, has been mayor since 1996.

The City of Carmel is consistently voted one of the best and safest places to live in the country.

It’s not yet clear if Brainard will face an opponent from the Democratic Party in the November general election.
