INDIANAPOLIS — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D- California) will headline the Young Democrats of America Convention later this month in Indianapolis.

Pelosi will speak at the convention at 7 p.m. on July 19 during the general session, according to a press release from the Young Democrats of Indiana.

The announcement comes less than a week after the convention said South Bend Mayor and 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg will speak at the event.

“Speaker Pelosi is the kind of leader who can inspire any generation, and ours is no exception," Louis Elrod, president of Young Democrats of America said in the release. "Young people across the nation were the deciding factor in key races across the nation in 2018 and we are a vital constituency for efforts in 2020. We're honored to have an icon like Nancy Pelosi address the Young Democrats of America National Convention to talk about what's next for our party and our country."

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the national convention from July 17-20 in Indianapolis, according to the statement.
