Detectives say the man was shot by two suspects inside the gas station.

No further details were available from investigators, but we spoke with family members of the victim.

The victim's nephew - whom we are keeping unnamed - says one of the suspects shot his uncle in the chest after a struggle.

"I'm scared, so I'm in the back, you know," he said. "(And then) they shoot my uncle in the chest."

Police say the clerk was stopping the robbers' progress into the store, and that's when the altercation occurred, with the victim's nephew hiding in a back room, fearing for his life.

"I am stressed and I am scared here," the man said.
