FRANKLIN — About 200 Indiana National Guard soldiers and airmen received a COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday in Johnson County.

The guardsmen who received the vaccination are stationed at long-term care facilities, COVID-19 testing sites, protective equipment distribution warehouses and food banks.

The vaccines they received are part of a U.S. Department of Defense program, separate from the shipments to hospitals going across the country.

Indiana and New York are the first two states to pilot the DoD program.
