INDIANAPOLIS — The number of Hoosiers filing first-time unemployment claims rose slightly after weeks of decline.

The number of claims for the week ending Aug. 15 was 11,750, a slight increase from the previous week's adjusted total of 10,624.

The previous week was the lowest number since the beginning of the pandemic in March. The number of claims in Indiana remained above 20,000 for 17 straight weeks since early March, before dropping in the week ending July 18.

In the 22 weeks since the COVID-19 pandemic began, about 960,000 Hoosiers have filed for unemployment.
