INDIANAPOLIS — The number of Hoosiers filing first-time unemployment continues to stay around 10,000.

The number of claims for the week ending Aug. 29 was 10,783, a slight increase from the previous week's adjusted total of 10,597.

The lowest number since the beginning of the pandemic in March was 10,624, which happened in the week ending Aug. 8. The number of claims in Indiana remained above 20,000 for 17 straight weeks from early March to mid-July.

In the past few weeks, the unemployment numbers have been lower than at any point during the pandemic, but they're still about five times higher than pre-pandemic numbers.

In the 24 weeks since the COVID-19 pandemic began, about 980,000 Hoosiers have filed for unemployment.
