YMCA offering childcare for essential employees, healthcare, public safety workers

INDIANAPOLIS — The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis is offering childcare services for essential workers starting Monday.

Essential employees, listed on the state's coronavirus website, can use the services, according to a press release from the YMCA.

The childcare program is open from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday to children ages 5-12, according to the release.

The following locations will offer the program:

  • Baxter YMCA
  • Benjamin Harrison YMCA
  • Hendricks Regional Health YMCA
  • Irsay Family YMCA at CiyWay
  • Jordan YMCA
  • Witham Family YMCA in Lebanon

Children will be assigned to groups with no more than 10 per Y employee.

If you need help with the cost of childcare, there is financial assistance available, according to the release.

All drop-offs and pick-ups will be done outside to avoid unnecessary contact, according to the release. When children are dropped off, they be asked is they have a fever, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, and or a sore throat, and if they have been in contact with someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19. Children must be symptom free to attend the programs.

Spaces will be sanitized daily and children will be asked to wash their hands once they get inside, according to the release.

Childcare services are also offered for healthcare and public safety workers at YMCA.
