INDIANAPOLIS -- A former Franklin Township teacher was arrested and charged after she had a sexual relationship with a student and gave them drugs, police said Tuesday afternoon.

Kathryn Hagan, 38, is a former algebra teacher with Franklin Central High School. Police say she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student and gave them Xanax in March 2017. She also gave a gun to a different student, who intended to use it for a crime, police say.

Franklin Central High School administrators said they were first notified of the allegations through an anonymous tip on April 7, and notified the Department of Child Services and police. Hagan was placed on suspension, and resigned from her position.

Franklin Township schools released the following statement:

The Franklin Township Community School Corporation (“FTCSC”) has learned that criminal charges have been filed against former FTCSC teacher, Ms. Kathryn Hagan. Ms. Hagan was hired by the school district in January of 2017 and cleared a full criminal history check prior to being employed. On April 7, 2017 we were shocked to learn of these allegations. We immediately contacted law enforcement and her employment with the district ended the same day. We are fully cooperating with the police investigation. The safety and welfare of our students remains our utmost priority.

In the probable cause document, Detective Michelle Floyd wrote about the text messages on April 7 between Hagan and the student she allegedly gave the gun to:

Hagan: I didn’t realize it was a scam to pass my class. Plus, I can’t believe I gave him xanex
Hagan: Just a few so he could get some good sleep

Student: Yeah I really would rob them all but I don’t have a gun

Student: Just get me that and I will take care of it

Hagan: You want me to buy a gun, give it to you and then you give it to someone else to use for
armed robberies and maybe murders?! My name would be registered to that gun.

Hagan: They would need to steal more than their phones to make it not look like I put them up to it.

Student: Do you want me to if so I can get this settled nothing will get traced back to you

Student: There’s nothing I can do till I get the gun

Student: Do you want me to still do it and then they won’t have proof from J’s phone a

Hagan: I just resigned.

Student: Why did you I could of taken care of it

Student: And get bylkets
Student: Bullets

Student: Okay are you going to drop it off
Hagan: When I get it. You won’t be implicated, will you?

Student: Okay to get the gun or my house

Hagan: I deleted texts from you when Koers walked in, I don’t have your address

Student: (Note: Student provides his address, located in Marion County).

Student: Go to the side of the house
