INDIANAPOLIS -- An off-duty Marion County sheriff's deputy was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday morning on Indianapolis' east side.

The robbery happened around 5 a.m., at the 24-hour PLS Check Cashing at the intersection of Sherman Drive and Washington Street.

Katie Carlson, the spokesperson for the sheriff's department, said the deputy was in plainclothes and was in his personal vehicle. The suspect took the deputy's personal gun.

An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the victim performed a transaction inside and was robbed when he came outside.

For about an hour, IMPD had a perimeter set up and brought a K-9, but couldn't find the suspect.
