WINCHESTER, Ind. -- A man escaped from police custody by running naked through a Randolph County hospital.
An officer with the Winchester Police Department arrested Isaiah Butterfield early Sunday morning on preliminary charges of public intoxication. Butterfield was taken to St. Vincent Randolph to be checked out, due to his high level of intoxication.
While the arresting officer was signing paperwork, Butterfield ran though the hospital and out a door. He was still handcuffed and was carrying a brown leather jacket, according to Winchester Police Chief Richie Tucker.
While police were searching the area, they received a 911 call from a woman who said she was his ex-girlfriend and he was there in handcuffs.
When officers arrived, Butterfield had climbed out a back window.
He was initially facing a Class B Misdemeanor, but now faces a Level 5 Felony escape charge, in addition to the following other charges:
- Public nudity
- Public intoxication
- Disorderly conduct
- Theft
