INDIANAPOLIS -- Police fired at a suspect who was holding a gun on Indianapolis' east side late Tuesday night.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to Peppy Grill, near the intersection of 10th and Tuxedo Street around 11:30 p.m. They had received a call about a man waving and pointing a gun at people and vehicles.

When police arrived to the restaurant, they found the man inside. Knowing he was armed, they ordered him to come outside to avoid more problems.

As the suspect came outside, he shoved an officer and took off running, police say.

A second officer noticed the suspect pulling a gun from his pants, so the officer fired at the man.

Police say the suspect wasn't hit, but he kept running. He began knocking on doors in the 1000 block of N. Lasalle to ask people to let him inside.

Police eventually found him and arrested him without any other issues. A police spokesperson said he had drugs on him and was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for a different crime.

The suspect has not been identified.
