BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Bloomington police arrested Speck Mellencamp Sunday on charges of public intoxication and resisting arrest following a fight outside a Jimmy John’s restaurant.
The 22-year-old is the youngest son of singer John Mellecamp. His brother, 23-year-old Hud Mellencamp, was also present during the altercation, according to a police report documenting the incident, but was not arrested.
Speck Mellencamp was booked into the Monroe County Jail Sunday morning, and posted a $2,000 surety bond the same day.
Through his attorney, Thomas W. Farlow of the law firm of Frost Brown Todd, Mellencamp waived his initial hearing on Monday. A pre-trial conference was scheduled for September 6.
The incident isn’t the younger Mellencamp’s first run-in with the law. Speck and Hud Mellencamp both pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery charges in 2015 stemming from a 2013 fight in Bloomington.
The brothers were accused of kicking and punching a 19-year-old man they believed hit Speck.
Speck Mellencamp was sentenced to four days in jail in that case, and Hud received 50 hours of community service.
