INDIANAPOLIS -- Thieves on Indianapolis' south side stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment from a man's motorcycle trailer Monday, but he's more concerned about the theft of something with sentimental value.
Kirk Knisley is a drag racer.
After a long Sunday at the raceway, he pulled his trailer into the driveway and unloaded his $30,000 race bike, but left his 1973 Honda ST 90.
Monday morning, thieves cut the lock and stole the trailer and bike, along with a generator, a welder and some flat jacks. Those can be replaced, but the Honda bike can't.
It used to be his dad's bike. And it's what got him into racing in the first place.
"I think back to when he used to take me around the neighborhood on the back of it, riding with the sparkly helmet and the big bubble helmet shield," Knisley said.
Police found the trailer Monday morning, abandoned near the intersection of Bluff Road and Troy Avenue. Knisley was hoping the Honda bike would be there, but it was gone.
"Really that's the thing that hurts the most is that someone would take a prized possession, not knowing what meaning it had behind it," Knisley said.
