INDIANAPOLIS -- Police are trying to find a person who ran into a fire truck then took off Tuesday afternoon on Indianapolis' west side.

The dark blue Dodge Durango came around a curve too fast near the 1200 block of N. High School Road and hit the truck and another parked vehicle.

The fire truck's lights were flashing and siren was blaring at the time, but firefighters say the person was driving well above the 30 mph speed limit.

"He was playing bumper cars with a lot of people's lives," Wayne Township Fire Department Captain Mike Pruitt said.

Sadie Schmidt, who lives in the area, said she's seen people speeding through the area before.

"The neighbors that used to live down High School Road would tally mark how many times there was an accident -- because people fly on this road," she said. "It's become extraordinarily dangerous. People walk, it's scary."

Even on the interstate, if you see an emergency vehicle with its lights or siren on, pull over to the right side of the road.

"A lot of people literally just stop in the middle of the road, or they will pull to the left instead of to the right," Pruitt said.

The Durango that hit the fire truck has damage on the left and right sides and may have temporary license plates.
