Vigo County, known for bellwether status, chooses President Donald Trump, unofficial results show

TERRE HAUTE — Voters in Vigo County, the county known for its bellwether status, picked President Donald Trump, unofficial results from the 2020 general election show.

With 100% of the precincts reporting, Trump received 57.90% of the votes and Biden received 40.46%. Trump had 6,432 more votes than Biden.

Since the 1890s, the county of about 107,000 has swayed between red and blue in presidential elections.

"When Trump was elected in 2016, Vigo County voted for Trump. When Barack Obama won in 2008, Vigo County went for Barack Obama," Dr. Matthew Bergbower, a political science professor at Indiana State University said.

Before the election, Bergbower predicted Trump would win the county.

The unofficial election results from Vigo County come as votes are still being counted in several key battleground states.
