JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. -- One person died from a drug overdose in Jennings County, Indiana Tuesday night, part of 12 total overdoses in the area.
The Seymour Police Department is working with the Jennings County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police on the investigation.

Police have arrested one person, Michael Purvis, 34. Purvis was arrested and preliminarily charged with multiple counts of dealing in a controlled substance.
Officials believe people are taking heroin that has been laced with fentanyl.

Seymour police asked the word be spread about the fentanyl:
PLEASE spread the word, if you know anyone that may come in contact with this heroin please warn them!!! You may save their life!!
Police used multiple doses of Narcan Tuesday night to help people who had overdosed.
In nearby Cincinnati, Ohio, police also responded to more than 10 overdoses Tuesday night in just a few hours. There were also 27 heroin overdoses in four hours in a town in West Virginia, according to CNN.
Cincinnati Police tweeted a warning about the increase in overdoses.

It is unknown if these cases are connected to the overdoses in Jennings County.
