GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A 1-year-old girl died Thursday after her mother backed up her vehicle into her in a Greenwood driveway.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Department was called to a house near the intersection of Smith Valley and Morgantown roads around 5:30 p.m.
The child's mother told police she was moving her Dodge Durango SUV so the mechanic working on another vehicle could leave. She put the vehicle in reverse and let it idle down the driveway, hitting the child.
The mother told police "I didn't mean to run over my child."
Other witnesses told police they thought all the children were in the house. When the child was hit, her father grabbed her and yelled "Call 911!"
The child's father told police it was an accident. The woman was given a breathalyzer test at the scene. She registered a .000 BAC.
The child was a few days short of her second birthday.
