Three Indianapolis schools were delayed Thursday morning after officials say their buses were vandalized overnight.
The buses had their batteries stolen overnight in the vandalism.
The three schools on a two-hour delay are:
- Emmerich Manual High School
- Thomas Carr Howe Community High School
- Emma Donnan Elementary and Middle School
About 60 batteries were stolen from about 30 buses. The buses are part of A&S Transportation. This was the second break-in the bus depot had in the past two weeks. In the first incident, somebody cut the fence open, but didn't take anything.
A mechanic left at midnight last night, and another employee arrived at the depot at 5 a.m., so the theft is believed to have occurred sometime between then.
There are no cameras in the area, but the company will be taking preventative measures to make sure no more thefts occur, such as adding locks to the battery latches.
