CINCINNATI — The FBI and local authorities in the Cincinnati area are working to verify a boy's story that he was abducted years ago.
Investigators are also trying to determine if the child is an Illinois boy who disappeared in 2011.
The boy told police he was being held in a Red Roof Inn somewhere in the area, but couldn't say which one, according to Sharonville and Blue Ash police.
Both are suburban Cincinnati towns.
An FBI spokesperson in Louisville said they're working with a number of police departments in the Cincinnati area and in Aurora, Illinois.
Timmothy Pitzen was six-years-old when he went missing in 2011.
His mother has just been found dead by apparent suicide in an Illinois hotel room.
Multiple police agencies said they'd been told to check Red Roof Inns in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area.
Workers at several area hotels said authorities had spoken to them and/or requested their guest lists.
Law enforcement sources close to the investigation said they're working on positively identifying the boy.
