Columbus police officer injured in fight with suspect

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- One man was arrested after fighting with a Columbus police officer Monday.

The incident happened at around 7:15 p.m. near the intersection of 25th Street and Hawcreek Avenue. 

An unidentified officer with the Columbus Police Department saw Jacob D. Rice, 34, and attempted to take him into custody. Rice had two warrants for his arrest.

Rice got away from the officer and began running. The officer used his Taser on Rice, but he got back up and starting fighting. At one point during the fight, Rice pulled the officer's radio off his shirt and hit him in the face several times.

Eventually another officer arrived and Tased Rice again. Rice was taken to a nearby hospital, then to the Bartholomew County Jail. He was preliminarily charged with the two outstanding warrants, as well as resisting law enforcement and battery on a police officer. 

The officer was treated for a cut below his left eye.
