BEECH GROVE — Eight years after he was named Beech Grove Police Chief, Mark Swartz is stepping down, effective January 1.
On Monday, a new chief will be announced, according to Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley.
Swartz has been with the department 37 years. "During Chief Swartz's tenure, he has made significant improvements to the Beech Grove Police Department and the personal safety of each Beech Grove Police Officer," said Mayor Buckley. "Chief Swartz has made a lasting impact on the Beech Grove Police Department and he will be deeply missed."
The city, which is surrounded by Indianapolis on the southeast side, has a population of more than 14,000, according to the latest census.
