INDIANAPOLIS -- A body was found on a conveyer belt at an Indianapolis recycling facility Thursday morning.
The 47-year-old man's body was found at the White River Transfer and Recycling Facility at 200 Harding Street around 9:30 a.m., a spokesperson with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.
Police sources initially said it was being treated as a homicide, but an IMPD spokesperson said it's currently considered a death investigation. Homicide detectives were on the scene.
Police have not determined a cause of death. There were no obvious signs of trauma on the body.
Workers on the site say the body was found underneath a piece of cardboard a conveyer belt. Investigators believe it came in on one of the many garbage trucks that pass through the recycling facility.
Police say they used a fingerprint scanner to identify the victim.
The Marion County Coroner's Office scheduled an autopsy for Friday.
If his death is eventually classified as a homicide, it will be Indianapolis' 100th of 2016.
