Brazen burglaries: 4 different homes hit by thieves on the NE side

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS – Burglars broke into several different homes this week, all within a few miles of each other on the northeast side of Indianapolis. While police aren't sure they're connected, it's a frightening set of cases for people who live in the area.

In the four cases, the burglars entered apartments through kitchen or sliding back doors.

In one case, they even hopped up onto a second-floor patio, cutting a hole in the screen and busting in that way.

That’s what happened to Lorraine McQueen, who lives at The Masters Apartments just off I-69 south of 96th Street.

She lives alone, and thought she was playing her cards right as a single woman with a second-floor apartment.

“I thought I would be safer,” McQueen said. “I never dreamed that somebody could climb up to the second story.”

The thieves grabbed her car keys once they were inside, fleeing and taking her 2011 Chevy Equinox with them.

“I was terrified (and) I ran to the neighbors because I didn’t know if the people were still inside my apartment,” McQueen said.

In three of the four cases, people were home at the time. Not all the victims actually saw the burglars.

One of those victims actually confronted the burglars. Watch our video in the player above to hear from him.
