CARMEL — A 17-year-old Girl Scout is collecting cellphones in an effort to help victims of domestic violence.

Katie Dunn collected phones Sunday at the Carmel Police Department. It started when a neighbor put out a group text asking if anyone had a spare phone for her friend.

That friend and her young children had been kicked out of their home by an abusive husband. They didn't have any belongings and no way to contact someone for help.

Dunn heard about the story and wanted to do something. The phones she collected will be donated to the Julian Center. The organization provides shelter and support to victims of domestic violence in Indiana.
