CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. -- No one was injured when several train cars derailed in Carroll County Thursday morning.
According to Norfolk Southern, seven rail cars from one of their trains derailed as the train was pulling into a siding track in Rockfield just before 8 a.m.
The train, which consisted of 71 rail cars and two locomotives, was traveling from Peru to Decatur, Illinois. The company says 43 of the rail cars were empty and the rest were transporting a mix of freight but no hazardous materials were spilled. It is unclear which of the cars derailed.
Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said one tanker car flew off the rails and landed in somebody's yard.
The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
