Central Indiana organizations offer child care options for parents on Red for Ed Day 2019

INDIANAPOLIS — As several schools plan to close on Tuesday for Red for Ed Day at the Indiana Statehouse, different organizations are offering child care options for parents.

More than 12,000 teachers, faculty and staff plan to rally starting at 8:30 a.m. for better education laws.

At least 133 school districts, including Indianapolis Public Schools, have canceled school or plan on having an e-learning day so teachers can attend the rally.

Several Boys and Girls Club and YMCA locations are offering child care options for parents.

The Boys and Girls Club will have open club hours from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from the Boys and Girls of Indianapolis. Snacks and meals will be provided.

Members can attend the open club hours and those who are not yet members can sign up for $15 online for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

At least five Boys and Girls Club locations in Indianapolis will offer open club hours:

  • Finish Line Boys & Girls Club: 3870 N. Post Road
  • Keenan-Stahl Boys & Girls Club: 1949 E. Troy Ave.
  • LeGore Boys & Girls Club: 5228 W. Minnesota St.
  • Lilly Boys & Girls Club: 801 S. State Ave.
  • Wheeler-Dowe Boys & Girls Club: 2310 30th St.

The following YMCA locations in Central Indiana are hosting a School's Out Camp on Tuesday:

  • Baxter YMCA
  • Bridgeport Elementary
  • Irsay YMCA
  • Jordan YMCA
  • Mary Castle Elementary
  • OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA
  • Ransburg YMCA
  • Riverside Intermediate

Children ages 5-12 can attend the camps. They are open to both members and non-members.
