INDIANAPOLIS -- A chemical spilled Tuesday morning at a plant on Indianapolis' southwest side.

According to Wayne Township Fire Department Capt. Michael Pruitt, there was no hazard to any nearby neighborhoods after a spill at Vertellus Specialties, Inc. at 1500 S. Tibbs Ave. The spill was first reported at 4:46 a.m.

The chemical Dimethylpiperidine spilled inside the plant.

Pruitt said the employees in the building heard a small pop and realized there was a leak. Alarms immediately went off inside the building.

Dimethylpiperidine is made inside the plant and distributed to different companies. It's used in automotive adhesive.

Nobody was hurt.
