INDIANAPOLIS — Police have arrested an alleged drunk driver in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash Saturday night on the westside of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers and emergency personnel were called around 11:45 p.m. to the area of West 30th Street and North Tibbs Avenue on the report of two vehicles invovled in a crash, IMPD Officer Michael Hewitt said in a press release. When they arrived, officers learned three people ran from one of the vehicles.

While medics transported two people from a vehicle to the hospital, police set up a perimeter to search for the suspects who ran, Hewitt said. Police later arrested a 29-year-old man, believed to be the driver, and preliminary charged him with failure to stop at an accident resulting in death or serious bodily injury while intoxicated.

The passenger of one of the vehicles involved later died, Hewitt said. Their identity has not been released at this time.
