INDIANAPOLIS -- With GIFs, hashtags, and emojis, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is trying to keep Indy residents safe.
Every night at 9 p.m., the IMPD Twitter account has started tweeting about the #9PMRoutine, where you make sure everything is locked up before you go to bed.
At 9 p.m., IMPD encourages you to:
- Lock your car and house doors
- Lock your guns up
- Make sure your vehicle doesn't have valuables
- Turn lights on inside and outside your house

IMPD is encouraging people to check in with them, to let them know when they're all set for the night.

It's believed the #9PMRoutine was started by the sheriff's department in Pasco County, Florida. According to local reports, the county saw a 30 percent drop in auto burglaries since the sheriff's department started encouraging residents to check their cars and make sure they're locked.
"It has gone international," a spokespersonfor the sheriff's office said, according to Fox 13. "We've had law enforcement agencies from across the country, from around the world, who have borrowed this," said Doll.
