LA PORTE, Ind. -- An Indiana man was arrested after trying to race a Dodge Charger Saturday, only to find out the driver was an undercover police officer.
According to the Michigan City News-Dispatch, Eugene Thome, 40, was arrested after trying to race La Porte County Sheriff's Deputy Jim Fish. Thome was also in a Dodge Charger at the time.
Fish said he was northbound on Indiana 39 when he saw a vehicle follow too closely from behind. He said the other Dodge Charger accelerated to more than 70 mph while drifting in and out of lanes.
Fish said he turned on his lights and the vehicle pulled into a yard. Thome then got out and ran before being caught and arrested.
Thome had a felony warrant for revocation and was found to be a habitual traffic violator. He was also charged with two counts of resisting law enforcement. Thome told Fish he hoped to race him before realizing it was a police car.
