INDIANAPOLIS — January 2021 is already the deadliest start to the year Indianapolis has experienced since at least 2015.

With two days left in the month, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has investigated 22 homicides in January, two more than the previous high in January 2018.

Six of those homicides were in one incident, when a family was killed Sunday morning on Adams Street. A 17-year-old has been charged with six counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and carrying a handgun without a license.

In that incident, the 17-year-old is accused of killing four members of his family, his brother's girlfriend, and her unborn child. IMPD will count the unborn child in its homicide count.

Lawrence Police Department has investigated one homicide so far in 2021.
