Suspect killed in police shooting in Rushville, ISP investigating

RUSHVILLE — A male suspect has died in a police shooting in Rushville on Friday, and Indiana State Police are investigating.

According to ISP, the preliminary investigation indicates the Rush County Sheriff's Office received a report of domestic disturbance involving shots fired at a residence in the 200 block of East 5th Street in Rushville at around 5:06 p.m.

Responding officers from Rushville Police Department and the Rush County Sheriff's Office encountered a man and woman leaving the residence. Police say the man was armed with a firearm.

Officers issued verbal commands with the man, who police say did not comply. During the encounter, police discharged their weapons and stuck the suspect. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The woman was treated and released from the scene for a non-life threatening injury. Officials did not specify how the woman was injured. ISP said no officers were injured during this incident.

Officials have not released the identity of the suspect or the officers involved in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing. The findings will be submitted to the Rush County Prosecutor's Office for review upon completion.
