Man arrested in connection with homicide at Indy park

INDIANAPOLIS -- An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting that left one man dead at a park on Indianapolis' northeast side. 

Deante Williams, 18, was found dead at Wes Montgomery Park near 34th Street and Hawthorne Avenue at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Eugene Jones, 18, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the homicide, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced.

According to IMPD, robbery was the likely motive for the shooting. Jones was preliminarily charged with murder and robbery.

Officers at the scene said the victim and his girlfriend were meeting somebody at the park when Williams was shot several times in the chest and taken to Eskenazi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At the time, police said the suspect ran away from the scene.
