INDIANAPOLIS – A 41-year-old man was arrested this month in connection with a homicide on Indianapolis’ northeast side.
The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. on Oct. 4 in the 3000 block of Forest Manor Avenue. Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found an adult man, later identified as 49-year-old Vernon Williams. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly afterward, police were called to the 2600 block of Sherman Drive, where they found an adult female with a gunshot wound. She was listed in stable condition.
The suspect, James Griffie, was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and battery by means of a deadly weapon for his role in both incidents.
As of Monday afternoon, there have been 199 homicides in Indianapolis in 2020.
