BEECH GROVE, Ind. -- One man was taken into police custody Tuesday morning after a standoff in Beech Grove, Indiana.
Officers with the Beech Grove Police Department were called to a house near the intersection of Bellefonatine and Schaff streets just before 9 a.m.
Police say the people who called them claimed 32-year-old Shawn Yockey was inside the house, and there was some kind of disturbance.
When officers arrived on scene, they say Yockey refused to come out. His 4-year-old nephew and Yockey's mother were inside, police said.
After a SWAT team and negotiators arrived on the scene, Yockey ended up carrying the boy out of the house. Some neighboring houses and businesses were evacuated as a precaution, but nobody was hurt.
"They were worried that he possibly armed," Captain Robert Mercuri of the Beech Grove Police Department said. "There was a connection with an earlier crime that may have made him armed with a shotgun and a handgun. There was also word by the people involved in this disturbance that he would have a knife and perhaps a BB gun and that it looked real."
He was wanted on a parole violation warrant for robbery.
