FORT WAYNE — Police in Fort Wayne say a man wielding an axe inside a Lowe's injured four people Wednesday.

Fort Wayne Police Department officers were called to Lowe's, 4430 Illinois Road, on the report of an active shooter, FWPD Sgt. Sofia Rosales-Scatena said in a press release. Officers found a man being held down by employees and customers when they arrived.

Witnesses told police the man came into the store and grabbed an axe, which someone in the store quickly took away, Rosales-Scatena said. He then grabbed another axe and injured four people in the store. The victims all have minor injuries.

Officers checked the store and determined no other suspects were involved in the incident, Rosales-Scatena said. Police are unsure where the reports of an active shooter came from as there was no evidence found of shots being fired.

The suspect was preliminary charged with battery, criminal recklessness, and aggravated battery, Rosales-Scatena said.
