INDIANAPOLIS -- The mother of a child involved in a fight at Lawrence North High School is concerned about charges stemming from a fight involving her daughter.

The woman, Vanessa Beckley, said her daughter suffered a black eye, an eye hemorrhage, and had her hair ripped out as a result of a fight which took place on Sept. 8.

"My issue is -- how come charges haven’t been filed?" she said. "That was not a fight. That was assault. It was assault and battery with injury."

She said her daughter was caught off guard in the attack and that only one adult came to break up the fight after 40 seconds. Beckley also said the attacker was expelled for the semester, but she wants criminal charges filed.

In the video, many students can be seen recording a fight between two girls in a hallway.

"It was premeditated," Beckley said. "The kids went to her classroom with their phones out before she even started swinging at my daughter. They’re cheering her on and no adult stepped out until 38 seconds into the video. That’s a safety concern."

She offered the following advice for parents:

"Don’t encourage your kids to fight," she said. "Don’t do that. Keep on walking. Don’t record it. That’s not what you’re there for. Or if you are going to be there, break it up. Too much violence is in the school, it’s awful."

Lawrence Township schools released the following statement:

This unfortunate situation was immediately addressed by administration on September 8th and appropriate action was taken. We are not able to comment as to specific disciplinary actions taken by the district against the students involved.  This behavior is not reflective of the student body at Lawrence North High School. The matter has since been turned over to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

IMPD said the case is still under investigation, and the department will present the findings to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office for a charging decision.
