NEW CASTLE — While officers were on a traffic stop Friday night, two New Castle Police Department cars were struck.
Officers were investigating an alleged impaired driver around 9 p.m. in the 500 block of Trojan Lane, when the cruisers were struck, according to a police report. No injuries were reported.
One of the cruisers was totaled and one should be able to be repaired, New Castle Police Department Chief Matthew Schofield said.
Officers arrested the driver they were investigating before they were struck and preliminary charged them with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, public intoxication, possession of paraphernalia, possession of cocaine or a narcotic drug, speeding, driving while suspended, driving with no insurance and not wearing a seatbelt, according to the police report.
The crash was investigated by Indiana State Police troopers, according to the report.
