INDIANAPOLIS -- An off-duty officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was arrested on drunken driving charges early Sunday morning.

Officer Andrew Puente was in his personal car at the time of the incident, said Officer Aaron Hamer, an IMPD spokesperson.

Puente was found by police alone in his crashed jeep near the intersection of Fall Creek Road and Kessler Boulevard E. Drive at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. He told police he was driving home after having three drinks at a bar, according to an incident report.

He tested 0.106 percent on a preliminary breath test. The legal limit in Indiana is 0.08 percent.

He has been suspended without pay and his police equipment has been confiscated.

Puente has been with IMPD for three years.
